England international Jordan Henderson is set to sign a two-year deal at Brentford.
The 35-year-old had his request to leave Ajax granted earlier this week despite still having 12 months left on his contract.
Henderson was keen to play in the Premier League once again although reports linking him with a return to hometown club Sunderland were wide of the mark with the Wearsiders pursuing younger targets.

The vastly experienced midfielder appears a good fit for Brentford, whose captain Christian Norgaard left the Gtech Community Stadium for Arsenal yesterday.
The Athletic report Henderson has agreed terms and a medical will be conducted over the weekend. An official announcement is not expected until next week, however, out of respect for Henderson’s former Liverpool team-mate Diogo Jota, who was killed in a car crash last Thursday.
Henderson was a hero at Anfield
Henderson started out at Sunderland before joining Liverpool in 2011, overcoming a difficult start to become captain and leading them to success in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.
He opted to leave Anfield for the riches of the Saudi Pro League and Al-Ettifaq in 2023 – a move which saw him widely criticised after previously being a vocal advocate of pro-LGBTQ initiatives.
He endured a miserable six-month spell in the Middle East and linked up with Ajax in January 2024. He ought to have won an Eredivisie title in his only full season in Amsterdam but Ajax blew a nine-point lead at the top of the table with six games to go to be pipped by PSV Eindhoven.
Henderson still harbours hopes of playing at next summer’s World Cup and was recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel in March.
